Fixing a vertical wooden leg soundly to a horizontal wooden surface is always a genuine challenge, technically and aesthetically. For stability, this kind of joint calls for a triangular fixing between the two parts, which we resolved here with a quarter shell, an element recalling a quarter moon or a crescent. And Selene, in Greek mythology, was the goddess of the moon.

We already knew that any gifted artisan could make a piece to the same standard, even without knowing us: what remained was to prove it in real conditions. So we briefed an atelier we had never worked with, at the other end of France — Malt & Bois in Nantes — remotely, at short notice, and without ever having met.
When the day came, Tristan drove the van from Lille to Nantes to collect it: mostly a pretext to meet Mathieu and Milan at last. The meeting only confirmed what we already knew: the same blend of craftsmanship, passion and exacting standards. And that table in particular, the prototype straight from their hands, was flawless. It has since been shown at Wilde, before the press, designers and fellow artisans.
