Wall console, 2 or 3 drawers
Nescio
Typologically, the Nescio wall piece is both a shelf and a console, without being explicitly one or the other. Nescio (Latin for “I do not know”) is also the pen name of a Dutch writer. Like the design of the Netherlands, where Huub comes from, the console is sober, frugal, without frills.

From the very first sketch, in a Paris café, we knew Huub was drawing on the work of the American minimalist artists of the sixties. We very quickly understood what he meant by also proposing a version of Nescio without legs, to the point of perhaps having, for once, the same piece in mind before even seeing his drawing. The two-drawer version was born almost at the same time: the silhouette was already carrying us, only the symmetry changes register, tighter.
It remained to find the most fitting wood and finish. Ash, lightly whitened with oil, prevailed for the purity of the lines. But it was with this piece that Huub and Tristan rediscovered cherry wood, long hidden under a dark varnish: a hue between honey and pinkish brown, a fine grain, coppery glints, a patina that deepens with time. We showed it as it was, a Nescio in raw cherry, at the exhibition at Wilde, the only piece in the collection in that state.
